Tips & FAQ

Tips & Frequently Asked Quesitons

Can I just print the whole Source Book from my home printer?

Yes, but it is a very large pdf file and may take awhile to load. It is, however, printer-friendly. Please be aware that this pdf, just like the hard copy of the Source Book available at Action Copy, will NOT be updated during the year. The pdf consists only of information available at the time of the initial printing in August 2009. The most current information will be in the online Source Book, the HPS district website and in listserv emails.

I am trying to view the Secondary Calendar Only, but when I select a future month the calendar reverts to the full Source Book calendar. What am I doing wrong?

This seems to be an annoying quirk with the new software. If we can find a fix for it, we will be sure to do so. In the meantime the following method works.
Click Secondary at the top, but then instead of using the drop-down menu, click “September 2009” on the right side above the small calendar grid. It’s in red. You can continue to scroll through that way using the small calendar grids, but the pull-down menus seem to always revert to the full calendar.

Can I import the Source Book into my own online calendar?

Yes, the Source Book is compatible with iCalendar-compliant calendar programs (such as Apple's iCal, Google Calendar, Mozilla Calendar or Sunbird). This takes a few steps to set-up, but may be well worth it to take care of this at the beginning of the year if you use an online calendar yourself. Use the chart below to find the dates you want to import and then one at a time import the appropriate "feed" address into your calendar program. (In Google Calendar choose "Add a Calendar by URL" to import one of these feeds.) For example a parent with children in Center and Hopkins should import the following 6 calendar feeds: HPS, Elementary, Center, Hopkins, HPTA, Community.

iCalendar feeds Description of dates included in this field
http://www.hptaonline.com/webcalendar/publish.php?user=hps HPS District-wide dates, such as holidays and vacations

Who can I contact with technical questions or to give feedback on the new online Source Book?

Please contact Amy Ritterbusch at communications@hptaonline.com. This is our first year using this software. We will take your questions and comments into account and may be able to make some improvements and adjustments for next year's Source Book.
